Two arrested in handgun theft

Two suspects are in custody in connection with the theft of several handguns from Hudson’s Do It Best Hardware Store early Friday morning.

The Hudson Police Department received a call reporting the breaking and entering of the story at 5:55 AM Friday morning, to discover that during the early morning hours suspects forced their way into the store, then cut the chain that secured the firearms display cases and stole several semiautomatic handguns from the display cases.

The Hudson Police Department with assistance from the Lenawee County Sheriff Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tax and Firearms reviewed surveillance video from the store video system and was able to identify two male suspects and a suspect vehicle.

The store video showed that the suspects entered the store at around 12:30 a.m. and commenced to breaking into the locked overhead gate and stealing the weapons.

A store video also showed images of the two suspects taken Thursday afternoon when they were believed to be casing the store.

Hudson PD along with the Detectives from the Lenawee County Sheriff Department, and Somerset Township PD along with the Michigan State Police out of Jonesville, and deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff Department, made contact with the suspects and took them into custody.

Hudson Police Chief Charles Wier said that the names of the suspects haven’t been released yet, but that they were nineteen and twenty years old.

Officers were also able to recover all of the weapons that were stolen.

The complaint is still under investigation and the suspects are connected with other crimes in Hillsdale and Jackson Counties.
