July 13, 2011 —
When Pam and Dennis Smoke arrived home from the hospital in June of 2008 after Dennis’s emergency by-pass surgery, the last thing they expected to see was a co-worker from his employer, Alvan Trucking, waiting to deliver his paycheck. What they soon learned was that it was his final paycheck, as the company had closed it’s doors the day before. Over the coming weeks Dennis and Pam talked about what their future might hold and dealt with the same natural uncertainties thousands of other families struggled with that year.
As the months passed and his recovery progressed, the one thing Dennis decided was that he would never return to trucking, his career of 28 years. Instead, with Pam’s help and support, the decision was made to follow his dream to open a restaurant of their own right here in Hudson. The research and planning began almost immediately. It had to be fun, family oriented, unique and interesting; not just with the food and drink, but with the atmosphere. It had to reflect the way Dennis and Pam live their lives.
Throughout this past year, as each new goal was reached, literally dozens of people would approach Dennis saying, “I heard a rumor you might…” And it was due to these conversations that Dennis and Pam realized the community had named Hudson’s newest dining establishment with their enthusiasm…Rumors!
Rumors will provide a family-friendly, casual dining experience serving a wide range of delicious entrées from seafood to gourmet pizza, and from choice steaks to unique burgers, appetizers and desserts. Make your selection from an outstanding wine list or choose one of the craft brews on tap to complete a great dining experience with friends. Also, watch for upcoming events and entertainment outside in their Greenspace Courtyard.
Finally, as you pass Rumors, tall columns and enter the historic 137 year old building through the ten foot round-top oak doors, notice the original hardwood floors, the panel ceiling and the suspended shelving over the bar dating back to the days when it served the community of Hudson as a boot and shoe store. Today we can all once again celebrate both its heritage and its future. Sometimes it’s just a matter of fate!
