Hudson teen dies in single-car crash

On Oct 31 2011 at approximately 2:13 a.m., deputies from the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Dept. were dispatched to Union Rd, west of Elm Rd, in Pittsford Twp., for a one vehicle traffic crash. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 1999 Ford sport utility vehicle that had struck a tree. As a result of the investigation, it was determined that Keri Leigh Yowtz, age 17, of 407 Pleasant St in Hudson, was operating the vehicle eastbound on Union Rd. when she struck bumps in the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle slid across the road and struck a tree on the north side of Union Rd. The front seat passenger in the vehicle, identified as Ashley Vale Cox, age 19, of 301 West St. in Hudson, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both occupants were wearing safety belts at the time of the crash. Deputies were assisted at the scene of the crash by both Hudson and Pittsford Fire Departments and Hudson Police and Hudson Ambulance Service. Yowtz was transported to the Hillsdale Community Health Center by Hudson Ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained. The accident remains under investigation by members of the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Dept. Accident Reconstruction Team.
