Council authorizes attempt to form district library

April 18, 2012 —

The Hudson City Council at it’s meeting Tuesday evening voted 6-1 to authorize an attempt to form a district library in an area covered by the city and the Hudson School District.

The purpose of the project is to form a district that would have the ability to seek a millage to support the library. If approved — and it could take a year or more — the local district would mean that the Hudson Library would no longer have to depend on the city for a majority of it’s support, which has steadily declined in recent years. The Hudson Library is also supported partly by Hudson Township. The proposal would not mean a merger with the school library.

The local action is partly in response to a competing county district library project currently under way, which could remove local library service and concentrate it inAdrian.
