Work on the Engle Trail, the last link in the 3.5 mile loop trail around the eastern part of the city, gets under way this week.
The trail is funded by $120,000 of federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant money, administered through the state. Local matching funds are $60,000.
The trail will run near Munson Highway between the Berlin Trail (formerly Sunrise Meadows Trail) in the Sunrise Meadows subdivision to the end of the Findlay Trail on M-34 at Munson Highway. The work will be done by Concord Excavating.
The first event planned for the trail will be November 1, when the “Day of The Dead” 5K run will be held to support the Thompson House Museum and the Hudson Food Pantry.
Other trail projects are in the planning stages, including the “South Trail” from the south end of the Murdock Trail near the railroad bridge to Memorial Park. Federal funding is not expected for this project.
