Anne Acomb- Library Volunteer
In the winter of 1988,
Jean Coleman from the Coleman Foundation arranged a volunteer assignment
between the Hudson Library and one of the ladies that reside at the
Coleman Manor. In February, 1988, Anne Acomb began her volunteer
assignment at the library, working 26 hours each week. Anne shelves
books as they are returned by patrons, arranges books on the shelves,
and helps with holiday and seasonal decorations.
Anne is a very quiet
and reserved person, who takes the task of shelving and arranging books
very seriously. When books are returned, they are placed on a book cart,
sorted, and then Anne is ready to re-shelve the books. Anne has spent up
to 26 hours a week, shelving books, making sure book were in order on
the shelves and helping the librarians in other tasks. To say that Anne
is dedicated is an understatement, and making sure each book is in its
proper place is very important to her.
On a daily basis, Anne
walks the short distance from the Coleman Manor on Church Street and
reports to the library. In addition to her volunteer work, Anne enjoys
reading, art and coloring books as her hobbies. Anne grew up in the
Gross Pointe area, and is the daughter of the late Edward and Theodora
Acomb.
On Tuesday, February
19th.
A reception was held in Anne Acomb’s honor in the City council chambers.
The Council presented Anne a certificate of service, in recognition of
her 20 years of volunteer service. Just like 20 years ago, Jean and
Bruce Coleman joined Anne, along with members of the Library board,
foundation, library staff and friends of the library to acknowledge with
appreciation the work she has done over the past 20 years, and that she
continues to do on a daily basis at the library.
Income Tax Assistance Program
The Community Action
Agency offers a free Income Tax preparation service to Lenawee
Hillsdale, and Jackson County residents. The volunteer preparers provide
this service to households with annual incomes of $40,000.00 or less.
The service will complete and efile (electronic) file your basic tax
returns. For those that are not generally required to file a return due
to their income level, will want to file a federal income tax form for
the 2007 tax year. Congress has adopted a Federal economic Stimulus
program, citizens will be eligible for refunds in varying amounts, but
in order for the IRS to send you your economic stimulus refund, they
need to have your current address.
The volunteer tax
preparers can also assist you with completing your state and city
returns, and you may also be eligible for the child tax credit, earned
income credit, homestead credit, home heating credit, and prescription
drug refund. A special free tax program, just for senior citizens, is
also available.
The tax preparation
takes place at the Community Action agency offices, located at 400 W.
South Street in Adrian. You can contact the Volunteer Income Tax
preparation program at 1-800-438-1845 to schedule an appointment.
