The Hudson Chapter
of the SPEBSQSA Barbershoppers will present their annual PARADE OF
HARMONY April 9 at Miller school gym. The “Citations” from Louisville,
Ky, will be featured. They were here last year and made a tremendous job
of entertaining. This is the 18th year for the Parade of Harmony
Jaycees Past
Presidents were honored at an annual dinner held March 22 at American
Legion. There was a picture of the 12 men on the front page. The
membership was extended to 10 new members.
An organizational
meeting was held at Hudson State Savings Drive-In community room to
organize a new service club to be known as the Hudson Lion’s Club. In
spite of bad weather 15 men were present and Robert Goodrich was
appointed temporary chairman. The next meeting to be April 5.
Pfc David S
Wright has arrived at Pleiku Vietnam, the base camp of the 4th
Infantry division on March 6. He is a radio relay and carrier operator.
Deborah L
Abbott has been assigned to the position of reservation agent for
Trans-World airlines, stationed in New York City. She recently
graduated from WeaverAirline Personnel School in Kansas City, MO.
Margaret
Hartley, librarian at the Hudson Public Library presented an
interesting book review at the Hudson Woman’s Club meeting held at the
home of Mrs. Donald Smith.
Candy Hathaway,
a member of the Hudson Area High School band, has .been accepted as
French Horn player into All Student Band, USA. She will report to the
band on June 21, and tour Europe with them for a month.
It was
announced that the Hudson public library is now going to microfilm all
copies of the Hudson Post Gazette as a source of interest to all
concerned, especially the State Library, who are interested in obtaining
copies for their files.
Mary Louise
Swander and Robert Allen Elliott were married March 25 at the
Adrian College Chapel by Dr Howard Emerick Adrian College ,
chaplain, and Rev. John McNaughton.
Local births
include a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mills of Manitou Beach; a
daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Robinson of Pittsford; a daughter
to Mr. and Mrs. George Burlew- of Reading; a son to Mr. and
Mrs. Rick Kimling; and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. James Holbrook.
Beverly Kay
Perrin and Douglas Ronald Long were married Palm Sunday at
the First Congregational church in Pittsford by Rev. Thomas Toy.
Deane Kay
Musson and D. Scott Jackson are engaged and plan a late
summer wedding.
Susan M Bender
of Clayton and Perry S. Stutz were married March 25 at the
Methodist church in Clayton, by Rev. John McNaughton and Dr.
Ed Emmerick.
There will be a
city election on Monday April 3 for election of three to council and a
new mayor. Candidates for council are: Irene Borton, Dale Cosgrove,
Jack Donaldson, Robert Goodrich, Harry Westendorf, and Edward
Wolf. Mayor candidates are Harlow Eastman and Art Weber.
About 100 members
and guests attended Friendship Night Mar 28 of Lenawee Chapter # 174 OES
at the Masonic Temple. They were welcomed by Fred and Dortha
Deter, Worthy Patron and Matron. 24 members of the local Hudson
Barbershop Chorus provided a program of music.
Garbage pickup for
the city of Hudson will begin April 6, 1967 and every Thursday
thereafter. City Council recently installed this service.
March 23 1967
Fire destroyed a
large barn on the Robert Park farm three miles southeast of
Hudson last Tuesday evening. The 40 x 60 barn, a tractor, a quantity of
hay and straw, 200 bushels of soy beans, one calf and a milk house and
equipment were destroyed. Clayton fireman assisted Hudson fireman to
control the fire.
James Leavell,
high school principal, has announced his decision to leave at end of the
school year. He succeeded James Champion last fall.
Fun Night,
sponsored by Lincoln Mothers Club, was held last Thursday night, was a
great success with a large crowd attending. It has made it possible for
the club to donate approximately $300 to the school for educational
purposes. The Door Prize, a stuffed Tiger was won by Tim Edinger.
An Easter Cross cake, baked and decorated by Mrs. Clare Quick,
was won by Mrs. Julia Houser.
Seaman Recruit
Gordon D Baker USN graduated from 9 weeks navy basic training at
Great lakes Naval Training Center.
There was an
article about “Candidates for City Council and Mayor” . The first lady
candidate’s remarks made quite an impression on writer of article,
Catherine Stucky.
Special
Evangelistic services are to be held at Open Door Bible Church beginning
Easter Sunday evening with Evangelist Leland Conner of Jackson,
Mich,
Thomas Ebbitt
has re-enlisted in the US Marine Corps with rank of Sergeant. He is
located at a navy weapons base at Concord, CA and has previously served
four years in the Corps.
Mrs. Irena
Bovee and Emmor Baker were married March 11 at the home of
the bride, near Jerome, by Rev. Kenyon Wirick of Jonesville.
A daughter,
Cynthia Joy, was born March 7 to PFC and Mrs. Tom and Dawn VanAuken
in Jackson; and daughter was born on March 19 to Mr. and Mrs.
James Garr in Jackson.
Local births
include a daughter, Holly Ann, to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Harmon -
Waldron; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Terrell; a son, Norman,
to Mr. and Mrs. Terry McLouth; son to Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Rice of Addison.
About 117 attended
the Sports Banquet at Sacred Heart School last Sunday evening with Ed
Engle as toastmaster and Tom Saylor the principal speaker.
Awards and record of the girls basketball team were given by Mrs. Ray
Fontana; John Marry presented 13 varsity awards and Pat
Malarney presented awards to 15 junior varsity team members.
Friday Club
observed Sunshine Day on March 17 at the home of Mrs. James Grill
with 24 present. Members made and wore bonnets, some Easter, some St
Patrick's and some just plain humorous. There was a picture of the
ladies in this issue wearing their bonnets.
Mr. and Mrs.
Earnest Elston will observe their 40th anniversary at an Open House
on April 2 at the Rollin Grange Hall. They were married April 5, 1927 at
Addison Methodist Church. they have six children and 16 grandchildren.
March 16, 1967
About 420 attended
the St. Patrick's Day Roast Beef dinner held at Sacred Heart church last
Sunday.
Square Dancing has
become popular in Hudson. A group called the Hudson Rockets held a
workshop at Lincoln School on March 9. Callers are Dale and Mickey Smith
of Jackson. A group is sponsored by the PTA. Officers of the group are:
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Edgars of Adrian, President; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bishop
Vice President and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Fike Secretary and Treasurer.
Angela Bloomer has
been named Valedictorian and Beth Betz is the Salutatorian for the class
of 1967.
60 people attended
the Senior Citizen meeting at the Congregational church last Monday.
Being St. Patrick's Day songs and poems in that theme were sung and
read, and bingo played.
The Hudson Junior
High school band has been participating in concert and festivals this
year. They most recently participated in a festival held at Madison on
Feb. 25. Their next event is the Solo and Ensemble Festival in April
around the Jackson area.
The Ladies
Missionary group at Open Door Bible Church held their annual meeting
last Wednesday with election of officers: President, Mrs. Hilda
Peterson; Vice President, Virginia Isenhauer; Secretary, Mrs.
Retta Fry;
Assistant Secretary Velma Ames; Treasurer, Margie Smith; Assistant
Treasurer Violet McQueen. The ladies voted to purchase cupboards for the
church kitchen. They are being installed.
Good Friday
Services at Open Door Bible Church will be held with Pastor Harry Jordon
of Prattville and Pastor Howard Hein of Locust Baptist Church. There
will sunrise services on Easter Sunday morning at 6:30 AM.
The Hudson Womans
Club heard a musical program about Ireland given by Mrs. Melvin Evenson
at a meeting held at the home of Mrs. Frank Mansfield. Charlotte
Harrison demonstrated and played selections for the harp accompanied
Mrs. Evenson in Irish songs.
Local births
include a son to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cousino of Manitou Beach and a
daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Briggs of Waldron.
There was a
picture of the Hudson Tiger varsity who have a record of 10-9. The
junior varsity is 7-10. There was a photo of the varsity and junior
varsity cheerleaders.
This weekend
Bowlers will be in Hudson competing in the 3rd annual Hudson Doubles
Tournament. Last year Hudson drew 422 bowlers from various cities. The
competition will run every Saturday and Sunday until June.
March 19-25 is
Poison Control Week. Klee Pharmacy is offering a kit which can be
purchased for home use.
James Driskill has
been named to Dean’s List for the first semester at Adrian College. He
is a junior majoring in history and is a member of Alpha Tau Omega
Fraternity.

Furniture Store is offering General Electric and Whirlpool washer and
dryers. The washer is $189.00 and dryer $228 or $317.00 for the pair.
Buy a Ford from Bill Dunn Ford Sales, a Chevrolet from Harper Chevrolet
Sales and get the loan from either Thompson Savings Bank or Hudson State
Savings Bank. Also get a Dodge Polaris at CR Motor Sales. Your can buy
some shoes from Red Goose Store. Girls are being asked to join the Teen
Age Charm Club at Blanks Jewelery store. Ladies have good selection of
wallpaper at Gardiners and men can purchase a manure spreader at
Bishop’s Farm Service.
(Interesting
enough, of all of the above merchants mentioned above C R Motor Sales
and the Posey Shop are the only places left with those names,
although Tony can still sell you wall paper at the former Gardiners.)

New band uniforms for Hudson Area band are to arrive this
week. Band parents accepted the challenge to get them and are doing
things to raise money to pay for them. A manikin with the uniform will
be displayed in the window of Meyer’s Furniture Store. Public
asked for contributions. “Plenty of Money”, a hilarious musical comedy,
has been chosen for the all school dramatic performance this spring.
Director will be Mrs. Myers and Mr. Blackburn.
Stephen Fox, a senior at Hudson High has been awarded a $500
scholarship from Northwood Institute of
Midland,
Mich. He entered an original water color wash drawing in an art show
sponsored by Northwood Institute for high school seniors.
Theresa Ann Barrett and Gary Lee Collins are engaged and plan
an August wedding.
Mrs.
Suzanne Wirick left March first for
Paris,
France to join her husband PFC Jack L. Wirick, who is stationed
there.
Betty May Dochstader and Richard Crup were married Feb. 17 at
the First Baptist Church by Rev. T. R. Dolson.
Local births include a son to Mr. and Mrs. John Potts of
Prattville; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Orville Collins of Morenci and
a son to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Eichler.
The
Child Study Club held a Salad Supper Meeting at the Hudson State Savings
Bank Branch community room. The hostesses were Mrs. John Decker, Mrs.
Duane Murphy, and Mrs. William McCaskey.
The
Annual Sweetheart Dance sponsored by the Elkins-Beggs Jr. Lodge was held
last Saturday night at the
IOOF
Temple. The Sweetheart elected this year was Cindy Lockwood.
A/Sgt Terry Alverson has been home on a 30 day furlough and
leaves April 1 for Forbes Air Force Base In
Topeka,
Kansas.
The

were married Feb 23 in

Phillips.
Hudson Tigers lost 60-59 in a tournament thriller. Dan Toole made
15
points, Sweezey and Donaldson each had 11; Peacock and Davis each had 10
points. The cheerleaders were Peggy Stutz, Karen Townsend, Madelyn
Nichols, Marilyn Milliman, Sandy Duncan and Ilah
Borton.
March 2 1967
Harvey Potter,
co-publisher of Hudson Post Gazette with his son Edward, officially
retired this week from his duties with the newspaper after a long career
as a printer and publisher. He has been associated with paper since 1930
and except for a brief time during WW II when employed at Stearns in
Adrian has been with the paper ever since. He and his wife were honored
at a surprise dinner last night at Coscarelli’s restaurant with 21
present.
At a special
meeting held last Thursday evening, City Council increased the salary of
police chief Gary Fry, two patrolman, and two dispatchers. Chief
Fry's salary increased from $5,700 to $6,000, patrolmen from $5,000 to
$5,300 and dispatchers from $1,500 to $2,500.
Jaycee membership
meeting night was held Feb. 27 at the Community room of Hudson State
Savings Bank. There were 32 prospective new members, 12 regular members
and 9 Roosters present. By the end of the evening more than 15 new
members had been added.
City Planning
Committee has recommended to City Council that they proceed with plans
for complete water treatment and that the necessary engineering be
authorized. A survey-of water users in the city has revealed that
majority of people responding favor complete water treatment, which
includes both softening and iron removal.
They also
recommended the bridges on Jackson and Mechanic Streets be replaced
during the year 1967 using monies from Motor Vehicle Highway fund bonds,
and complete engineering and cost estimates be obtained.
Miss Hazel Pray,
RN, has resigned as Director of Nurses at Thorn Hospital to accept a
teaching position at Lexington Technical Institute in Lexington, Ky.
effective March 15.
The South Hudson
Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Robert Marry with 23 members
present.
The Catholic Study
Club met last Friday evening at Sacred Heart School. The moderator was
Mrs. Denis Dillon and the topic was " The Last Supper - The
Promise Kept.”
A daughter was
born Feb. 25 at Bixby Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Rutledge of
Waldron.
Local births
include: a son to SP4 and Mrs. Gene Campbell of Rollin; a
daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brackman of Fayette; a son to Mr.
and Mrs. Doley Lawson of Hillsdale, and a son to Mr. and Mrs.

The Century Club
met with Mrs. Frances Moore and Rev. Roland Liesman gave
an interesting talk on "Lent".
The Annual Blue
and Gold Banquet was held by Cub Scouts at Lincoln School last Thursday
evening with over 160 Cub Scouts, parents, relatives and friends
present. Retiring Cub Scout Master Bud Fowler introduced new Cub
Master Jack Zimmerman. Awards were presented to all the Cub
Scouts.
Tigers mangled
East Jackson 76-26 in a tournament. Gary Peacock, Junior forward,
was placed on the All County First team; senior guard John Donaldson
on the second team; Dan Toole received honorable mention.
