There was a photo
of the 1967-68 Hudson Area School Marching Band with its 58 members.
Drum majorettes are Earla Nichols, Pam Cisco, Kathi Freeborn, Pam
Stutz and Mary Baker.
A unique venture in
Hudson is a Day Nursery being conducted for the second year at the
Congregational Church, which is available to anyone in the area. The
nursery is for boys and girls 3 1/2 to 5 years and runs concurrently
with the regular school year. Meeting hours are 9 - 11:30 AM. Mrs. J.
C. Filnowicz is the teacher, assisted by Mrs. Robert Johnston,
Miss Deanne Kope. Mrs. Charles Goll assists periodically with music
for the children.
There was a photo
of Roy Watkins of Bishop Trailer Park. He has delivered the Post
Gazette for the past 11 years there but due to his age he has given up
his driver’s license and also his car. The park gave him a great
birthday party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Bishop last
Thursday afternoon. He is now 80 yrs old.

include a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Newton of -Rollin; a
daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Marry; a daughter to Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Gamble; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Godfrey of
Waldron; and a son to Mr. and Mrs. Allis Robinson of Manitou
Beach.
Rev. and Mrs.
Max Allen have moved into the church parsonage of the Wesleyan
Methodist Church in Pittsford. They came here from Williamston and have
2 children.
Pamela Sue Grill
and Kenneth Beran Grossmann were married Sept. 23 at the First
Congregational Church by Rev Joseph Filonowicz.
Stephen
Mansfield arrived home after completing 2 years service, the last
year in Vietnam. He has received several medals.
Catherine
Hartley and Sheldon Peltier were married Sept. 22 at Sacred
Heart Church by Rev. Fr. Gerald R. Loewen.
Sharon Marie
Kingsley and Lt. Dan Frederick Taylor of Bay City are engaged
and plan an early December wedding.
Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard Sprague of Adrian will observe their 25th anniversary at an
Open House on Oct. 1 at the Farm Bureau Insurance Building in Madison
Center. Bernard Sprague of Hudson and Esther L Dohm of
Pioneer were married Oct 2, 1942 in Pioneer, OH and have 3 children and
2 grandchildren.
Cleo T Aldrich
Jr. of Clayton has been named Guidance Counselor at Bob Jones
University at Greenville, S C.
Paul Merillat,
of Lawrence Rd. had his year old Allis-Chalmers tractor struck by
lighting last Wednesday afternoon. All 4 tires flattened, and about half
dozen holes left in each tire. The tractor was by itself in field and
not grounded in any way.
Dennis P
Valentine of Clayton was promoted to Army Pfc on Sept 6 near
Baumholder, Germany, where he is serving with the 56th Supply and
Service Battalion.
Army Pvt Ronald
E Shibler for Clayton was assigned to the 10th Engineer Co. near
Long binh, Vietnam on Sept 6. He is a bridge specialist in the company.
Betty Ann Ruse
and Darrell Ivan Lee were married Sept. 16 at the Congregational
Parsonage in Pittsford by Rev. Thomas Toy.
Lent's A & W Drive
In is still open Thursday through Sunday for the balance of the season
it is located at the corner of US-127 & M-34.
The Hudson Tigers
beat Onsted 33-12 last Friday in a hotly contested LCAA game. The hard
earned victory ended an Onsted winning streak of 15 games. There were
pictures of Dan Toole, Todd Driskill and Stacy Campbell.

A pair
of first period fumbles were costly, as the Hudson Tigers lost to
Blissfield last Friday night 19-7. Dan Toole made the TD and
extra point.
Charter
night was held on Sept. 16 for Hudson Jaycees Auxiliary when they hosted
the Jaycees and Jaycee Auxiliaries of Adrian, Tecumseh, Chelsea, Reading
and Ann Arbor. The District 3 VP installed the following officers:
President, Peg Merillat; VP - Carol Jodis; Treasurer,
Diane Donaldson, Secretary, Shirley Sparks; directors -
Alice Chilcote and Diane Camp.
Hudson
Planning Commission met Sept. 13 and voted unanimously to recommend
“That the city should go ahead" and make every attempt to install both
bridges - Jackson Street and Mechanic Street. It is felt that their is
good chance for passing of Good Roads Package by State Legislature and
the increase revenue to city that both bridges should be built.
A
Recordah Microfilm Reader has been purchased by funds donated to library
by Bruce Coleman, the Friday Club, Hudson State Savings Bank, the
Kiwanis Club, M&S Foundation lnc, Thompson Savings Bank and from City
Council. Within a few weeks the local newspapers dated from 1858 to
1967, will be available on microfilm. Michigan State Library is
presently microfilming these newspapers in Lansing.
The
1968 Chevrolets are on display at Harper Chevrolet; Bill Dunn is
showing 1968 Ford models and CR Motors is showing the 1968 Dodge,
Plymouth and Chrysler cars.
Local
births include a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Adams of Sand
Creek; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Boies; and a daughter to
Mr. and Mrs. Sebert C. Kope of Adrian.
Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Berry will celebrate their 57th anniversary on Sept
24.
Army
Pvt Barry W Osman of Pittsford completed a wheeled vehicle
mechanic course on Sept. 15 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
James Madell has joined a long range reconnaissance patrol in
Vietnam and now located at Dak To, Vietnam.
Marine
Corporal Mikel S. Stuck of Waldron is at Beauford, SC with
Headquarters Squadron at the Marine Corps Air Station.
Rev.
Orville Arnold is the new pastor at Trinity Holiness Church. He, his
wife and 3 sons moved into the parsonage on Nelson Rd. He comes here
from New Lisbon, In and there was a house warming given by the church
last Sat night.
Members
of Fidelis Circle, First Methodist Church met at the Spray cottage at
Devil’s Lake last Monday evening for their first meeting of the year.
Mrs. Lynn Spray, circle chairman was hostess.
Methodist Youth Fellowship enjoyed Sunday afternoon at the Spray cottage
with the afternoon spent boating, water skiing etc. Mr Spray is MYF
leader this year.
Oct 1
will be Rally Day at Open Door Bible Church with a chalk artist and
speaker for Sunday School and Promotion of Sunday School students.
Mrs
Hugh (Olive) Coman of Waldron was honored last Saturday when 20
relatives and friends came to help her celebrate her 85th birthday.

Tigers will go to
Blissfield on Friday night to open the 1967 football season. Hudson is
looking for their first win there in 10 years. The squad was trimmed
from 80 to 35 last week. Up from 1966 -- lineman are: Steve Kingsley,
Steve Freeborn, Ralph Poe, Fred Meyers, John Malarney, John Gregg, Dave
Moyer, Dan Monahan and Tom Cunningham. Also up from JV in
backfield are: Pat Monahan, Mike Opsal, Mick Houser, Dave Warner, Roy
Sterling, George Terrill Mike Timm, Roger Anderson, Bruce Coleman, Terry
Kingsley and Doug Friedrick. The remaining 15 men were all letter
winners of the 5-2-1 season last year. Coaches are Tom Saylor,
assisted by Bob Tinney and Ray Curran. Team Captains are
Dan Toole and Chris Hill; QB is Rick Rodehaver.
Henry Klee
R. PH.. has recently completed a specialized training program in
Institutional Pharmacy practice.
Hudson school
distinct voters rejected both proposals in Monday’s school election with
a very close margin of 303-296.
First PTA meeting
was held last Tue evening and recognized the teachers in the schools.
The 43rd annual
reunion of Rollin Pressed Brick school was held at Rollin Baptist Church
Hall with a small attendance, but all enjoyed a potluck dinner. Teachers
honored were Mrs. Earl Phillips and her daughter, Mrs.
Beatrice (Phillips) Winchell, and pupils who went there at that
time.
58 descendants of
Eli and Lulu Van Etten held their annual reunion at Rollin Grange
Hall last Sunday with a potluck dinner at noon.

Open House at Shady Lawn Trailer park in honor Roy Watkins 80th
birthday on Sept. 21 given by Mr. and Mrs. George Bishop.
Seaman Recruit
Richard E Stump graduated from 9 weeks training at Great Lakes Naval
training Center.

Densmore and Douglas Bachman married in Waldron by Rev
Bruce W. Densmore of Pontiac, uncle of the bride.
Specialist 5/C
Stephen E Mansfield received the Army Commendation Medal Aug 25,
while serving with the 87th Transportation company near Long
Binh;Vietnam. He earned medal for meritorious service as squad leader in
the company. He’s been in Vietnam since October 1966.
Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Crisp will observe their 50th anniversary with an Open House
on Sept 17 at Congregational Church at Churches Corners, They were
married Sept 16, 1917, in Hillsdale, and have 4 children and 9
grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs.
Roscoe Wilson Sr. will observe their 35th anniversary with an Open
House on Sept 17. Roscoe and Cecil Cadoo were married Sept 13, 1932 at
Watertown, Mi. He is employed by Oliver Instrument Co., Adrian. They
have 5 sons and 11 grandchildren.

Congregational church in Pittsford by Rev. Thomas Toy.

attended the Metalloy picnic held at Webster’s Park for a chicken
barbecue dinner by the Chefs of American Legion Post 180. There were
lots of prizes awarded with games for all ages. There was bingo in
afternoon and more than 80 prizes given out.
Hudson
Metal Products held their second annual picnic on Aug 25 at White Marble
Springs Park with 100 in attendance. A sirloin beef dinner was enjoyed,
games for children and prizes for 6-10 age group and 11-15 age groups.
Fred Gay won the Men’s Door Prize and Mrs. Dan Bringman the
women’s door prize. There was lots of action with swings, horse shoe,
card playing and visiting was enjoyed.
At
Miller School, Miss Gayle Kunis, last year’s 6th grade teacher,
is now doing remedial reading; Miss Hall will be Intermediary Special
Education teacher. Mrs James Merillat will be doing elementary
counseling at high school; Mrs. Opal Jones will devote a half
day work with high school students doing individual study projects. Ray
Kopp will devote full time to Home Construction in cooperation with
county vocational projects.
Staff
Sgt Gary O. Sergeant of Clayton is serving in the Marine Corps
air station at Yuma Arizona.
A
Public Hearing is to be held Sept. 19 for purpose of correcting the
assessment roll on the School St. sewer project.
At the
City Council meeting, a discussion on Jackson and Mechanic Street
bridges and cost of constructing both raised doubts. A special meeting
of Planning Commission is scheduled for next Wednesday evening with a
decision to be made at council on Sept. 19.
The
Hudson Women’s Golf League ended Aug. 31 by playing at Woodlawn Golf
Course in Adrian. Later, 30 members and one guest met at the Adrian
Elk’s Club for a delicious buffet dinner. Annual trophies were awarded
for all winners. Individual point champion was Dorothy Distler; team
champions were Dorothy Distler and Rita Winn plus many
more winners.
Steven Isenhauer left Sept. 6 for military service in the US Army.
Sharon Kay Brighton and
Ted R. Smith were married Sept. 2 at
Open Door Bible Church by Rev. Ron Lawrence.
Sheila Munsell and
William Whitehouse were married Sept. 2 at
Church of God, in Wauseon by Rev. William W. Whitehouse,
grandfather of the groom.
Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Bowman will observe their 50th anniversary with an
Open House On Sept 10 at their farm home on Elm Rd. Frank Bowman
and Ilo Quackenbush were married Sept 5, 1917 at Adrian. Mr
Bowman retired 9 years ago from M&S Manufacturing Co. They have 7
children and 27 grandchildren and 2 great grand children.
Julia
Edith Sauer of Grand Rapids and Larry Thomas Peacock are
engaged and plan an April 1968 wedding.
Local
births include a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Swailes Jr; an
infant to Mr. and Mrs. James Eitnear; and a son, Mark Russell,
born to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ash of Pittsford.
