"NORMALLY
IN A STORE OPENING you'd cut a ribbon, but since this is a market we
decided we'd better cut a cake," Market House Owner Brett Boyd told
the crowd in the lobby of the renovated and expanded market house at
last Wednesday's Grand Opening. From left to right, General
Contractor Claude Rowley, Hudson City Manager Bruce VanWieren, Store
Manager Tim Sallows; Karen, Braxton, Mindy Brett and Bailey Boyd;

Market House has Grand Opening
It may have been raining outside, but it didn't dampen the
spirits of the crowd that showed up late Wednesday afternoon for the
formal Grand Opening of the renovated and expanded Market House. The new
store, which includes several other businesses, including Hudson
Pharmacy, Brown's Advanced Medical Supply, Hungry Howie's
Pizza, Malibu Tanning, McCarty's Bakery, Do It Best Hardware,
Vandevender Law Offices and a County National Bank branch
office is the largest retail investment in Hudson history.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people worked to make the
opening a reality, Market House owner Brett Boyd commented during
the opening ceremony. The project, which was managed by Claude Rowley
of Rowley, Inc., was on the drawing board for nearly a decade, and
took nearly a year of construction to complete. The list of contractors,
subcontractors, and others that had a hand in the construction of the
store is extensive. It includes: Rising Excavating, Inc., Brand
Construction, Inc., Duckworth Brothers, Inc.,Schiffer Mason Contractors,
Inc., Paradigm Design, Spartan Stores, Rhoades Engineering Corp., Marks
Electrical, Ryan and Bradshaw, Griffith Mechanical, Clark Electric,
Wilcox Fire Protection, Blonde Painting & Decorating, Briskey Brothers,
P. H. Construction Services, Shively - Bouma Inc., Braman Roofing, Mad-dalene's,
AAA
Fence, Adrian - Tecumseh Fence, Seelig Enterprises, Jackson Glass, Bean
Creek Carpet, Blank Telephone, Posthemus Sign Co., The Energy Concern
L.L.C., County National Bank, Hillsdale County Building Inspection, City
of Hudson, Do It Best Corp., Consumers Energy, Hartley Seamless
Eavestrough-ing, Hoover-Wells Floor System, Stevenson Lumber, Inc.,
and
Cross Tech Digital LLC, along with Rowley, Inc. "We wanted to
use local contractors wherever we could," Boyd commented. Rowley
reported that the construction job is not quite done, and there are a
few things still on the "punch list" to complete, but not many.
"We're extremely excited," said Market House owner Brett
Boyd. "This is something that my family has been dreaming about and
working toward for about ten years now and it's great to see it coming
together. We hope to be a great asset to
Hudson and provide a
lot of employment to a lot of people. I would be extremely remiss if I
didn't thank our customers. They're the reason we've been in Hudson for
a long, long time and why we hope to be in
Hudson
for a long, long time."
