HUDSON SCOUTS GO TO ISLE ROYALE NATIONAL PARK
                           (July 13 2006 Hudson Post-Gazette Publication)

Scoutmaster Troop 602

Six  scouts and three adult leaders traveled to Michigan's upper peninsula and Isle Royale National Park for a backpacking trip of the island where they spent 5 days and 4 nights in the wilderness. While in the Upper Peninsula the scouts were able to tour Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor, tour the Delaware copper mine and go cliff jumping into the Sturgeon River. While on the island the scouts backpacked 35 miles carrying all their gear and food for the trip. The scouts were able to observe many animals in their natural habitat including moose, wolf, beavers, fox and otters, along with hearing many more. The scouts earned the backpacking and the hiking merit badges along with the 50-miler award. They also learned the proper leave no trace camping method, along with the experience of being in the wilderness of Michigan.
