                               ALUMNI BANQUET HELD
                   (July 13 2006 Hudson Post-Gazette Publication)

The annual Hudson Alumni Banquet was held on Saturday June 24, 2006 at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall an honored the classes of 2006, 1981 and 1956. There were about 103 in attendance. Mrs. Mary (Kuenzer) Neff of Ann Arbor was chairman of events and conducted the meeting as mistress of ceremonies. She introduced her classmate Rev. Steven Guest, who gave the Invocation before the dinner.

Following a buffet style dinner Mrs. Neff welcomed all those present and introduced James Goodsell, president of the class of 1956. Mr. Goodsell gave some remarks regarding their graduation exercises and then asked each of his class mates present to stand and be introduced. Mrs Kay (Gosnell) Frownfelter then led the class in a class yell.

Louis Schulte, president of the class of 1946 was then introduced and he mentioned that this class was the first class to graduate from Hudson High following WW II. He mentioned that two of their class had left before graduation to enter the military - George Butcher (now deceased) and Dean Borton (present tonight). They would later get their diplomas. Another member, Phil Goodrich, who had left from an earlier class for the service was given his diploma at the time of their graduation in 1946. The members of that class present were then introduced. There were 47 in the class; 15 were present, and about 15 are deceased. Not bad for 60 years, eh?

Dale Schulte of the class of 1955 then spoke for a few moments and introduced one of his classmates, Don Dietiker, who was present for first time in 51 yrs. Don stood and said he’d be back again! So just shows if you have a lost classmate, you can eventually find them. That is what happened with Don; Dale was able to locate him over the internet!

Mrs. Neff then introduced the members of her class who were present. There were about 15 present, many coming from as far away as Seattle, Wash and Orange,  Calif. No one was present from the Class of 2006.

Other classes present were then introduced and one former teacher, Phil Eberhard. The oldest graduate present was George Mills from the class of 1940. The oldest married members, who had also been high school sweethearts, were Dick and Priscilla (Goodrich) Potter, both graduates of 1949 and married in 1950.

Jan Fisher alumni treasurer then spoke a few words regarding the finances of the alumni. Due to increased expenses the past few years the funds are getting low. She stated that due to having to pay extra for the present hall, that next year we would probably be at an another location. She also asked if a special collection might be taken that night to help with expenses., which was done.

It was announced that the following officers will serve next year: Joanne Shaffer, President, Class of 1982; VP - Alan Day-class of 1957; Secretary-Hazel Monahan-Class of 1945; and Treasurer Jan Fisher, Class of 1974. The group was also asked for suggestions regarding changing the date for the alumni meeting  until perhaps Sept or Oct. We would appreciate suggestions from other alumni members regarding this. It seems like June is such a busy month with other graduations, weddings etc. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. You can send any comments to Secretary Hazel Monahan, 6318 Dillon Hwy, Hudson MI 49247 The meeting adjourned with the remainder of evening spent in taking pictures and talking with old friends and acquaintances.

Mrs Carol Day entertained her classmates of 1956 at a social hour on Saturday afternoon.

The class of 1946 enjoyed a tour of the Thompson House Museum on Saturday  afternoon and on Sunday noon held a luncheon at the Quigley Bed and Breakfast south of Hudson.

All in all, everyone had a great time, and many wish to come back again. I just wish that more members, especially those who live in Hudson and the area, would also try and come. Time always goes by all too fast, and once our friends and classmates are gone, it's too late! -- Hazel Monahan, Secretary
