Hudsonites help out with Extreme Home Makeover

HUDSONITES Holly and Debbi Atherton work on landscaping on an "Extreme Home Makeover" project in
Tennessee.

When the new season of Extreme Makeover-Home Edition airs this fall on TV- watch carefully, you may see a couple local faces.  Debbi Atherton of Hudson and her daughter Holly, spent a couple days working on the Hendersonville, Tennessee project site.  They did landscaping for the front and side of the home.  They prepared the soil, planted trees, moved plants and laid sod, all while enduring the 98° temperatures.

“It was a fantastic opportunity.  We worked with hundreds of people who, like us, didn’t know the family but had the desire to help”, stated Debbi.

The house was being built for a young family that survived an F3 tornado earlier this spring.  The young mother became injured and is now in a wheelchair after shielding her 2 young sons with her body. Debris from the house fell on them and she was severely injured. Holly lives and works in Hendersonville, Tennessee, where the episode was being filmed.  Debbi went to visit her daughter for a few days and jumped at the opportunity to participate in the build.  To learn more about the Tennessee project and to see how the project evolved go to http://www.capitolhomeideas.com/ and click on the Extreme Makeover link.

Schools Begin e-Fund Payments
                       Kathy Malnar, Superintendent

Electronic banking has arrived at the Hudson Area Schools.  e-Funds for Schools is a new electronic payment system now available to families of Hudson Area Schools students.  Signing up is as easy as accessing the e-Funds for Schools link from the Hudson Area Schools’ website at www.hudson.k12.mi.us

For an annual fee of $10.00 per student e-Funds for Schools allows parents to make electronic payments to the school eliminating cash and checks parents currently give their children for payment of all school activities and functions, including lunch, student fees, field trips, lost books, athletic fees and tickets.  Parents can make payments in the comfort and security of their own home 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  Parents can make payments from their checking account, savings account, debit card, or credit card.  The school will track payments on a daily basis, and parents can request a complete printout of payments at any time, and a student history is also available online.  Advantages of the system for parents include:

  • Parents can eliminate the worry that their child could lose checks or cash they give them for payment of school activities.

  • e-Funds for Schools allows parents to make payments from their checking account, savings account, debit card and credit card.

  • Parents can make payments 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

  • Payments can be made by visiting the school’s website and, via a hyperlink, the parent is transferred to the e-Funds for Schools secure payments server.

  • Parents may make payments by calling a toll free 800 number.

  • When parents access the system, they may make one payment, pay multiple school activities, and pay for one or all of their children during a single visit.

  • Parents can establish a reoccurring payment, such as a lunch payment, that repeats for a desired amount on a schedule selected by the parent.

  • When a parent makes an online lunch payment, they no longer need to worry that the money will be lost, or spent on other things.

  • Parents can review online payment history that will show each electronic payment made and the school activity paid for, per child, for the entire school year.

  • Each time a one-time or reoccurring payment is scheduled to be posted to a parent’s account, they will receive an email at home and work stating which child the payment is being applied to, the purpose, and the amount giving the parent time to be sure money is in their bank account.

  • During a single visit a parent can make a single payment and apply it to several children and multiple school activities that need to be paid.
