LINCOLN
SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Cindy Godfrey welcomes back children Tuesday
morning for the start of school. The kids had an extra long vacation
this year due to a new state law that bars school opening before Labor
Day unless barred by existing contracts. It's a long way to June but
these kids seemed excited to have the new school year under way.

Designate Hudson for United Way
by Lori Lancaster
Our local
United Way fund distribution committee is tasked with the evaluation of
numerous funding requests from groups and associations, which provide
various programs to Hudson area children and residents. These
organizations provide our community with a wide range of services, from
Scouting and organized sports for our children, to holiday food baskets
for those in need. The non-profit groups that offer these services are
made up of our friends and neighbors volunteering their time for the
enrichment of the entire community. Supporting these organizations, by
designating your United Way contributions to
Hudson,
will make a substantial impact by improving the quality of life in and
around our community. In the spring of 2005
Hudson’s
United Way distributions totaled $25,325.00. Unfortunately, when the
committee met this spring, they found total funding was down by 64% to
$9,049.63. This substantial change resulted in the large reduction or
elimination of dollars available to our local organizations The
commit-tee’s investigation revealed that while overall donations to
United Way remained relatively unchanged, our local funding was reduced
due to organizations or individuals that, last year, did not designate
the Hudson community as the recipient of their contributions. All
donations to United Way are deeply appreciated and help support worthy
causes. But if you wish to have your contributions remain in our
community, serving our local organizations, please consider designating
your gifts to Hudson.
The
2006 United Way local distribution committee volunteers are Lori
Lancaster, chairperson, Mike Borton, Jean Ann Berlin and
Bill Rupnow.
