KIWANIAN MARK MONAHAN presents the Kiwanis Senior of the Month
award to Chelsea Baker.
The first Senior of the Month to be honored from the Class of 2007 is
Chelsea Baker. Her scholastic achievements, school activities and
community involvement are so extensive; it’s difficult to imagine how
she finds the time to do it all.
Her numerous academic achievements include serving as president of the
National Honor Society this year. She has been a NHS member since she
was a sophomore. She is the treasurer of student council this year.
Chelsea received awards in mathematics, science and social studies each
of her first three years in high school. She won two awards in English
in her sophomore and junior years, recognizing her accomplishments in
English and in debate.
Last year she was a member of the Lenawee County Honors Band, and was
inducted into the Society of Women Engineers.
Chelsea
also received the LCAA Scholar Athlete Award in each of her first three
years of high school. She ran Varsity track starting in her freshman
year, and has been in the Hudson Soccer League since she was a
freshman.
A 4-H member throughout high school,
Chelsea also volunteers for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lenawee County
as a lunch buddy and e-mail buddy. She is a member of the Clayton
Community Chorus, sings in the choir at the
Clayton
United Methodist Church, and is a member of her church’s youth group.
In her “spare” time she has been a babysitter and has tutored students.
Chelsea plans to
study to be a physician’s assistant at an undecided college or
university next fall. Chelsea is the daughter of Blaine and Barb
Baker of Clayton.
