The
Village of Clayton ushered in the Holiday Season Tuesday, December 5,
when the Clayton Summer-Fest 2006 Committee sponsored a Lighting
Ceremony and Concert. There were 85 in attendance.
The activities
began at Memorial Park with the Clayton Community Chorus, under the
direction of Paul Burcroff, singing “Deck The Halls” as the
Village Christmas lights were turned on by Village President, Mark
Jeffrey.
Cathy Brown
was in charge of decorations at the park. The group moved to the Fire
Hall for the concert.
Hugh Dilworth,
President of the Clayton Summer-Fest, welcomed the guests. The Pledge of
Allegiance was led by Tiffany Hickman and Erin Cox members
of Jr. Girl Scout Troop #161. Rev. Craig Pillow of the Clayton United
Methodist Church, was Master of Ceremonies. The invocation was given by
Rev. Nathan Fidler of the Clayton Bible Church.
Several selections
were sung by the Community Chorus, accompanied by Beverly Burcroff at
the piano. There were solos by Jamie Byrd, Lori DeLine and
Barbara Baker. A piano solo was presented by Mao Tsukamoto.
Gifts of
appreciation were presented to Cathy and Everette Brown for
decorating the park and to several volunteers that assisted. Paul
and Beverly Burcroff were recognized for their work with the
Community Chorus. President, Mark Jeffrey and Leo Pelham
were also recognized for their generosity to the Community. There was a
“Free” drawing under the direction of Ardith Dowling, Wilma Baker,
and Cathy Brown.
The program
concluded with the audience joining the chorus in singing by
candlelight, “Silent Night.” The benediction was given by Rev. Fidler.
Santa arrived as
the chorus sang “Here Comes Santa Claus.” Santa presented treat bags to
the children. Refreshments were served by the Clayton Extension club and
Summer-fest Committee.
