The Village of Clayton ushered in the Holiday Season Tuesday, December 5, when the Clayton Summer-Fest 2006 Committee sponsored a Lighting Ceremony and Concert. There were 85 in attendance.

The activities began at Memorial Park with the Clayton Community Chorus, under the direction of Paul Burcroff, singing “Deck The Halls” as the Village Christmas lights were turned on by Village President, Mark Jeffrey.

Cathy Brown was in charge of decorations at the park. The group moved to the Fire Hall for the concert.

Hugh Dilworth, President of the Clayton Summer-Fest, welcomed the guests. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tiffany Hickman and Erin Cox members of Jr. Girl Scout Troop #161. Rev. Craig Pillow of the Clayton United Methodist Church, was Master of Ceremonies. The invocation was given by Rev. Nathan Fidler of the Clayton Bible Church.

Several selections were sung by the Community Chorus, accompanied by Beverly Burcroff at the piano. There were solos by Jamie Byrd, Lori DeLine and Barbara Baker. A piano solo was presented by Mao Tsukamoto.

Gifts of appreciation were presented to Cathy and Everette Brown for decorating the park and to several volunteers that assisted. Paul and Beverly Burcroff were recognized for their work with the Community Chorus. President, Mark Jeffrey and Leo Pelham were also recognized for their generosity to the Community. There was a “Free” drawing under the direction of Ardith Dowling, Wilma Baker, and Cathy Brown.

The program concluded with the audience joining the chorus in singing by candlelight, “Silent Night.” The benediction was given by Rev. Fidler.

Santa arrived as the chorus sang “Here Comes Santa Claus.” Santa presented treat bags to the children. Refreshments were served by the Clayton Extension club and Summer-fest Committee.
