Thank You for Gingerbread House Help

Mrs. Leffel and her 3rd grade class would like to thank Mr.& Mrs.
Marty Maier for coming into the classroom and helping them make
gingerbread houses. The students had a great time creating their own
gingerbread house. They even got to sample some of the goodies.
M&S
Closes Doors
Friday, December
22, 2006 was the last day of production at M&S Manufacturing Company,
after 61 years in the community.
Things were
relatively quiet at the once-busy plant complex on the east side of
Hudson. Many workers affected had already departed, the parking lot was
nearly empty, and machinery movers had been busy moving equipment that
had been sold.
M&S was founded
here in 1941 by Alton McGhee and Max Sayre. It was mostly
involved with defense contracting during World War II. Over the years
the company grew to several hundred employees in a number of buildings,
both here and in Morenci.
In the past few
years the company has been steadily downsizing.. Last winter the company
idled several buildings, concentrating operations in just four
buildings.
It was announced
in September that the plant would be closing. There had been reports
that the company might be purchased, but in the end all the
possibilities fell through.
About 135
employees were affected by the September announcement, but the number
had fallen to less than 100 by last Friday.
