Cheerleading Team Heads Off to State Championships

READY TO ROAR! After winning the regionals here last weekend, the Hudson High School Varsity Competitive Cheerleading team heads off to the state championships this weekend as favorites to take the title. The girls have been ranked Number One in the state most of the season, and have had podium finishes in the state meet for seven years, and hope this year will be the one they take the title. The championship is at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids Saturday, with Class C-D finals starting at 6:00 PM. While they're at it, the schools are sending eight wrestlers to the state individual meet at the Palace in Auburn Hills Thursday through Saturday.

Beth Court Earned a #1 Excellent Rating

Beth Court, Hudson High School Junior, recently competed in the District High School Band Solo & Ensemble Festival, where she earned a #1, excellent rating, for her flute solo.  Beth was accompanied, on the piano, by Mrs. DeeDee Artman. Her #1 rating means she will continue to the State Solo & Ensemble competition where she will again perform her solo as well as be required to play scales chosen by the judge and perform a sight reading piece.  Beth was also part of a duet that received a #2 rating. The Band Boosters would like to congratulate Beth on her accomplishments and wish her the best in the state competition.

Instant Alert Messaging System set to Begin at Schools

School districts in Lenawee County and the Lenawee Intermediate School District will soon implement an instant messaging system.

Instant Alert from Honeywell will provide school districts with the ability to instantly alert parents and guardians that school is delayed or closed due to weather.  The alert system has other features that will make communication with families much quicker and in some cases easier.  Parents can easily access a secure web site to update contact information (initial contact information is securely entered by the school district) and select how they wish to receive messages.  They can choose any combination of devices (phone, cell phone, e-mail, PDA, pager, or all of the above) and can assign different devices for urgent versus routine messages.

Emergencies and unexpected changes to school events can’t be avoided.  Now schools and parents can count on Instant Alert to deliver important information without delay.  If there is an emergency, within minutes school officials can use Instant Alert to deliver a single, clear message to the students’ parents or guardians.  The schools can also keep parents informed of everyday activities, such as event times and locations, schedule changes, student performances or truancy.  The system will be able to make a call home if a student is absent and hasn’t been excused by their parents!

Customized messages can be quickly created and updated in real time for any situation, student or group, then delivered only to the appropriate families and individuals.  For instance, if an athletic team is delayed in returning from an event, the Instant Alert system can notify those families.

Additionally, school administrators can quickly and easily communicate with selected or all faculty/staff members about meetings, schedule changes or a wide range of school-related matters, saving time and increasing school effectiveness.

Timely, consistent and accurate information, especially in an emergency, provides assurance that each child is being cared for.  Parents’ increased awareness of their child’s school activities, attendance and performance promotes a healthy home/school relationship, which can improve learning.            -- Kathy Malnar, Superintendent

Lincoln Reading Tour Tuesday, March 20

As a part of March Is Reading Month, on Tuesday, March 20th, Lincoln Elementary is having a very special Family Reading Night from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Parents please note the time change from our usual scheduled evening. During these two hours, students can read and take tests as usual. However, from 6-7 p.m., three very special readers will be at Lincoln. These are readers that you are not going to want to miss.

Upon entering the building, each student will receive a Literacy Passport. This passport will allow them to visit the rooms of each of the three readers. Each reader will share his or her story three times during the hour so that everyone will have an opportunity to visit all three readers. Each reader will not only share a book, but will also have a very special snack available for our students. At the end of the evening, there will be drawings where students will have an opportunity to win prizes. Free books will also be a part of this giveaway.

For the entire Month of March (Literacy Month)  Hartman Books  is offering a 100% Matching Program.  For every dollar Lincoln parents spend during the month of March at Hartman Books,  100% of that Dollar will go towards in-store credit for Lincoln Elementary School in Hudson.
