                                Class of 2007 Top Ten Students Announced

Hudson Area High School would like to announce the Top Ten students for the Class of 2007.  These ten students have worked very hard during their four years at Hudson High to earn this honor and we congratulate them on their success. Four seniors have the honor of being named Valedictorian for the Class of 2007.

Valedictorian Chelsea M. Baker has been involved in her school and community throughout the last four years. She has been in the National Honor Society the past three years and serves as NHS president this year. She is also the current Student Council treasurer. She has been involved in 4-H all four years of high school and has been an officer three of those four years. She was a member of the Lenawee County Honors Band her junior and senior years and has been in marching band and concert band all four years. She has been involved in Varsity track and has earned LCAA Scholar Athlete awards each year. Chelsea has been in five school productions during her high school career. She is involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Lenawee County lunch buddy and e-mail buddy programs. She is involved in her church through the youth group and regularly sings in the choir. She was inducted into the Society of Women Engineers last year and was selected as a senior of the month last fall. She is also the DAR Good Citizen from Hudson. She sings in the Clayton Community Chorus and has been involved with the Hudson Christmas Cantata all four years of high school. Chelsea plans to study to be a physician’s assistant at an undecided college or university next fall. She is the daughter of Blain and Barbara Baker of Clayton.

Valedictorian Ashley Hackett serves as treasurer of the National Honor Society. She represented Hudson High School as a delegate to American Legion’s Girl’s State last year. Ashley was selected as Senior of the Month last October and has been an active member in her church youth group, serving as President last year. She is a four year member of the volleyball team and a three year member of the softball team. She has served as a volunteer for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program, Special Olympics, Red Cross Blood Drives and after-school tutoring. In the fall Ashley plans to attend Central Michigan University and major in psychology. Ashley is the daughter of Robert Hackett and Tammy Acker.

Valedictorian Rachel Schroeder was selected as Senior of the Month in February. She represented Hudson High School as a delegate to American Legion’s Girl’s State last year. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years, in Band her freshman and sophomore years, and involved in Science Olympiad in her freshman and junior years. She has been a Girl Scout and has been involved in her church youth group all four years of high school. She is a volunteer for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. In the fall she plans to attend Central Michigan University and major in Actuarial Science. Rachel is the daughter of Thomas and Susan Schroeder.

Valedictorian Charity L. Troutt serves as secretary for both the Class of 2007 and the National Honor Society. She has been a member of the marching and concert band all four years of high school and was a member of the 2006 Lenawee County Honors Band. She has been on the track team all four years of high school and was on the cross country team for two years. Charity has participated in the all-school play for two years. She is a volunteer for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters lunch buddy program, the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Hudson and the Special Olympics of Lenawee County. She plans to attend either Oakland University or Albion College in the fall and major in English with a minor in education.  Charity is the daughter of Luz and David Lehl.

Salutatorian Amy (Dunne) Rodifer is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a student council class representative for three years. She has been dually enrolled at Jackson Community College for two years. Amy is a two-year member of Business Professionals of America through the Accounting class at Vo-Tech. She has been an active volunteer for four years and a member of the track team for two years. In the fall she plans to attend Baker College and major in Accounting and Business Management. Amy is the daughter of David and Bonnie Dunne.

     The Remainder of the Top Ten includes the Following Seniors

Kari Stoyk, daughter of Paul Stoyk and Jackie Stoyk, currently serves as the Student Council secretary at Hudson High School. She has been a member of the Hudson Soccer League for ten years and a member of the Hudson Band for eight years. She has been on the Varsity Golf team, a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the All School Play for three years as well as a member of the Hudson Science Olympiad team her freshman year. An active member of her community, she has been involved in Girl Scouts for twelve years, was a Big Sister for the Big Brother/Big Sister program of Lenawee County and currently is employed at the Hudson Boy’s and Girl’s Club. Kari plans to attend college in the fall of 2007 to become a high school teacher.

Samantha Tennis is the daughter of Steve and Sherry Tennis. Samantha currently serves as Student Council President at Hudson High School. She has been a member of the Hudson Band for eight years, Girl Scouts for twelve years, Cross Country and Track for six years each and on the Debate team for two years. Samantha has also been a member of the National Honor Society, All-School Play and Science Olympiad and active in her church’s youth group. She volunteers her free time at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club and has participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Lunch Buddy program. Samantha was the December Senior of the Month and was recently awarded LCAA Student Athlete Award of Excellence 2007. Athletically, Samantha has received four Varsity letters for Cross Country, NCAA 1st Team and 2nd Team All-League recognition, four times State qualifier, and All-State honors, as well as Academic All-State honors twice. So far in Track and Field she has been on the Varsity team for three years, 1st Team All-League, three times State qualifier, and All-State honors twice. Samantha has also achieved the LCAA Scholar Athlete Award three times in Cross Country and twice in Track. Samantha plans to attend college in the fall and major in Exercise-Sports Science.

                
Jessica Keene
serves as a Student Council representative for her class and has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years. She was selected as Senior of the Month in November 2006. She has devoted her extra time to Band for four years and Color Guard for two years, earning co-captain her senior year. She is a four year member of both the sideline and competitive cheer varsity cheerleading teams, earning four First Team All-League awards, three First Team All-Region awards, and four First Team All-State awards. She has earned awards for the past two years based on her academic and athletic background and is a volunteer at the Lenawee Humane Society. Jessica plans to attend Grand Valley State University to major in zoo animal training and minor in dance/choreography. Jessica is the daughter of Deborah Keene and Robbin Suydam.

Chelsea Berkshire has been an active participant in many school and community activities. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and currently serves as Vice President. She has received numerous academic awards while at Hudson High School including recognition in science, English, math, science and foreign language. Chelsea received her Academic letter and a Science Olympiad regional award in her junior year. She has held positions of office throughout her high school career, serving as vice president her sophomore year and class president her junior year. Chelsea was awarded Senior of the Month for January. Chelsea has been on the varsity sideline cheer team, a Teen Court representative and has served on the Prom committee. She has been a Girl Scout throughout high school and has participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters lunch buddy program. She has volunteered her time at Special Olympics, the Salvation Army, Lenawee Hospice tree-lighting and Red Cross Blood Drives. Chelsea is currently employed as an intern at Hudson Pharmacy. She plans to attend Lake Superior State University in the fall. Chelsea is the daughter of Ron and Lisa Berkshire.

Victoria Keene, a member of the National Honor Society, has spent three years supporting Hudson High School as a competitive and sideline cheerleader. She has also participated in the Hudson Band for three years. Victoria has been accepted for Who’s Who in America for the past three years. She was also chosen by Lead America to attend a ten day conference at Lake Forest College to learn more about forensic science. She has volunteered her time as a lunch buddy for the Big Brother/Big Sister program of Lenawee County. In the fall Victoria will attend Mary Grove College and major in Forensic Science. She plans to further her career after receiving her Bachelors degree by pursuing graduate work in Forensic Science. Victoria is the daughter of Victor and Debora Keene.
