Firemen seek funds for Jaws
For the last
several months, Hudson firemen have been working to raise funds for a
new Jaws of Life -- a portable hydraulic cutter used to free people
trapped in vehicle accidents among other things.
The department's
current JAWS unit is around thirty years old and is in need of
replacement.
This high-tech
piece of equipment is not cheap -- it runs close to $50,000. The firemen
have part of the fund raised, but still have quite a ways to go.
The Hudson Fire
Department is taking a step toward raising the money with a Public
Auction at the Hudson Fire Department Saturday, April 14, starting at
11:00 AM. The event is sponsored by Wal-Mart, which is donating
several items, and will be doing a matching grant for up to $1000 as
well as a community grant for $1000.
All types of items
are being auctioned off, including a weekend getaway, household items,
toys, TV, many gift certificates, a bed and breakfast package, and lots
more.
Hudson Museum Benefit Auction and Dinner May 12
Mark your
calendars for Saturday May 12th. The volunteers for the Hudson
Museum are busily preparing for the annual benefit. Louise VandeZande
is heading up a team of volunteers to gather antiques, collectibles,
services, and other items of interest for the annual auction. If you
have items to donate, please drop them off at the library, the museum,
or call 517-448-8841. A Swiss Steak and Chicken Dinner will be served at
6:30 at the American Legion on Cadmus Road. The dinners will once again
be $15 per person. Once dinner is over, Auctioneer Lynn Leichty
will be exciting the crowd to bid on treasures from Hudson area attics
and businesses. All proceeds are used to operate the Museum. The major
portion of the donations for the dinner and auction pays for the heat
and the electricity to run the museum. The museum is staffed totally by
volunteers, headed by local historian and curator, Hazel Monahan. If you
have not had a chance to attend this event, try it this year. It’s a
fun, it’s entertaining, and it’s a great chance to support and preserve
your local history museum.
