Sacred Heart School Tug of War

Sacred Heart School had their tug of war last week but none of the teachers landed in the cool whip.  Another tug of war took place with the 6th grade and Mrs. Johnston against the teachers.  As they say, 'a picture said it all'!

HOPE celebrates National Appreciation Week at Lincoln

April 15 - 21, 2007 was observed as National Volunteer Appreciation Week. Helping Our Pupils Excel (HOPE) students had the pleasure of giving the volunteer mentors a “pay day” candy bar to show their appreciation for the time that is given. The candy reminded the mentors that their “Cheerfulness gives sweetness to life”, Mentors arrive weekly donned with genuine compassion for children, love of reading, the desire to see children build self-esteem and confidence while sharing their own spirit of volunteerism.

Over the past eleven years we have seen that one-to-mentoring works at Lincoln Elementary. Many HOPE students have made honor rolls, National Honor Society, and college dean lists.

We would like to recognize the following community volunteers who bless us weekly: Tammy Amos; first year mentor; Loretta Blank, first year mentor; Betty Creger, first year mentor; Phil Eberhard, third year mentor; Bud & Mary Enerson, volunteer mentors for 10 years; Marsha Evenson, first full year mentor and sub in prior years; Yvonne Livingston, volunteer mentor for 11 years; Sandra Mayers, fifth year mentor; Dorothy Meredith, 11 year volunteer mentor; Joan Murphy, 11 year volunteer mentor; Mickey O’Connor, volunteer mentor for 11 years; Lori Slagle, 2 year mentor; Darlene Steele, first year mentor; Mary Tanner, first year mentor; Alice Taylor, 11 year volunteer; Stephanie Weichmann, two year volunteer; Laura Zeller, 10 year volunteer; Colleen Zimmerman, first year volunteer.

Thank you mentors for making a difference in the lives of many over the past 11 years. Your time is priceless.

Ethnic lunches at schools

Spring has sprung at Hudson Area Schools!  Because of the collaboration of Delight Creech (Communities In Schools Director), Michell Dunn (Food Service Director) and our State and Federal Grants Coordinator, Marcie Brown, Fantastic Food Fridays has become a reality.  Because these ladies worked long and hard to secure a grant through the State of Michigan, students are exposed once a month to an ethnic lunch.

Hudson’s Youth Summit students provided the input and desire to create an atmosphere that encourages diversity.   It was their suggestions that brought the multi-cultural lunch menus to fruition.   It is the hope of Hudson Area Schools that students are given the opportunity to embrace diversity.  Students are encouraged to try foods from Ireland, Italy and Mexico.  On the fourth and last Fantastic Food Friday, students will try foods that are “SUPER” - foods that offer the best healthy choices and pack the most ‘BANG’ for their buck.

We are proud of our students and our staff for their hard work and effort.  Our students deserve the very best!
