Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13, 2007 and this year's theme is "Practice Your Escape Plan." The 2nd Grade Brownies of Troop 180 (Helping Hands of Hudson) have been doing just that! We reviewed and practiced our Fire Escape Plan in case of a fire during our weekly meeting at Sacred Heart School. We also have grid paper to create our Home Fire Escape Plan with our families. We created "Phone Safety Centers" that display the telephone numbers of our personal emergency contacts on construction paper flowers, our home address on a house cut-out and 911 on a bright orange circle. Bob's Market House generously donated boxes of baking soda to our Troop so that we were able to create "Fire Safety Soda" to keep handy near the stove when cooking with an adult. Our next activity will be a tour of the Hudson Fire Department. We're off to a great start to an awesome school year!

Band 'O' Rama Thursday, October 25

The Hudson high school band and the 7th & 8th grade bands will be performing their annual Band 'O Rama concert on Thursday, October 25.  The high school band will be performing songs from the band Journey.  This fun filled concert will be held in the high school gymnasium. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted to help with the high cost of this concert.

After performing a couple selections with the lights on, the band will then perform their "Glowshow" in a darkened gym.  The entire band will be decorated with "glow sticks".  It is a sight you don't want to miss!  The concert is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.

Other upcoming activities involving the band are a fund raising night at Culver's restaurant in Adrian on Wednesday, October 24 from 5:00 - 8:00.  The band will get a percent of the sales during those hours.  The band is starting a Little Ceasers pizza fund raiser that will run through early November and the band boosters are taking orders for band parent t-shirts.

The pizza orders and t-shirt orders are both prepaid fundraisers  and orders for both will be taken at parent-teacher conferences.  The students will also be taking orders for the pizza kits individually.  The band is raising money for a proposed trip to Disneyland in the spring.

Tigers have long ride to next game

The Hudson Varsity and JV football teams will be making a long trek to Big Rapids this weekend, and many Hudson fans are expected to follow.

The Tigers will be playing Kingsley, which is located in the northern part of the lower peninsula.  Considering the distance to travel, a central location was needed, and it was worked out that the games will be played on the campus of Ferris State University at Big Rapids.

The Tigers wound up playing Kingsley when traditional rival Clinton moved to the Tri-County Conference. This left a hole in week eight of the schedule.

"Beating the Kingley Stags who also wear orange and black is going to be a daunting task for the Tigers but it is one they are capable of doing," Bill Mullaly reports. "Kingsley lost its opener and then won five straight and then lost to a tough Frankfort team last Friday. The Stags were the division 6 state champions in 2005 and they have a long history of success on the gridiron. These two football powers will meet Saturday at 1:00. The JV game is at 10:00. Don't miss this game, as it will have a playoff atmosphere to it."
