Brownie Girl Scout Troop 180

The Hudson Area 2nd Grade Brownie Girl Scout Troop 180 (Helping Hands for Hudson) undertook a community service project - Operation Happy Sock. We recycled 172 socks and turned them into catnip toys for the homeless cats at the Lenawee Humane Society. We toured the facility during our meeting and met many loveable cats and dogs who need a home. A big THANK YOU goes out to the families at Lincoln Elementary and Sacred Heart School who cleaned out their sock drawers for us and to United Way for helping us purchase the supplies to fill our socks.

Kellee Wonders Signs Letter on Intent

Hudson Tiger senior basketball standout Kellee Wonders signs a letter on intent last Wednesday to play college basketball next year at Hillsdale College. Wonders will play for the division II Lady Chargers and will study pre-med. She has been a star player for the Lady Tigers for the past two years and will be a captain this winter for her third season. She averaged 12.2 points a game last year, while grabbing nine rebounds per game and she had three blocked shots per contest. With her is head coach Tom Romanowski who will be sending his first player to a division II school after 14 years as head coach. “I want to thank my family, coaches and teachers for all of their support in helping me reach this goal of playing basketball in college,” said Wonders, who also is a volleyball and softball player at Hudson. “This is an exciting moment and I’m really looking forward to playing next year at Hillsdale.” First, Wonders will concentrate on helping the Lady Tigers repeat as LCAA champs. The season starts Friday at 7:00 at Hillsdale.

In the women’s race, Samantha Tennis, a freshman at Spring Arbor University, helped her team to a 12th place finish in the national championship meet.  She completed the 3.1 mile course in a time of 21:12, good for 194th place.  In addition to Deo and Tennis, several other Hudson grads are competing on colligate cross country teams this fall.  Seth Fankhauser runs for Greenville College in Illinois; John Koser competes for Spring Arbor University; Chelsea Berlin is on the team at Adrian College; Alyse Smith is running in the snow up at Lake Superior State University; and Rachel Ham and Krissy McCaskey are competing for Siena Heights.

Dr. Kathy Malnar Announced Her Retirement Plans

On Monday, November 19, 2007, the Hudson Area Schools’ Board of Education began to focus on the next stage in the district’s leadership team.  Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Malnar, has announced her plans to retire effective July 1, 2009.  Few districts, when faced with a change in Superintendents have the opportunity Hudson has – an adequate and well planned transition to new leadership.

Dr. Michael Osborne, current High School and Middle School Principal will interview for the Superintendency of the Hudson Area Schools which will be vacant upon the retirement of Dr. Malnar.  According to Board President, Ron Haber, Dr. Osborne has demonstrated his commitment to the Hudson Area Schools and community as well as the leadership abilities necessary to take Hudson Schools well into the future.   Having served as the High School Principal for the past five years, Michael Osborne completed a doctoral degree in October of 2007, and looks forward to the opportunity to discuss his candidacy with the Hudson Board of Education.  Dr. Osborne and his wife Nancy have five children, three of whom still attend the Hudson Schools.

Current Superintendent Malnar will have completed ten years at the helm of Hudson Schools when she retires and is enthusiastic about the future of Hudson Area Schools.  “Few districts have the opportunity to accomplish such a thoughtful and well planned transition.  “Hats off to the Board of Education and the community of Hudson!  Our years in Hudson have been wonderful.  We came to Hudson for a job and found a home”, she continued.  Malnar looks forward to remaining in Hudson, a place that she and her family have come to love.
