Thompson Museum Hosts Garden Classes
Spring
is here and now is the time to turn your thoughts to planning and
planting in your gardens. The William G. Thompson Museum, located at
101 Summit Street in Hudson, is offering classes to help you this spring
with your gardening chores!
On
April 12, 2008 Pat Rowley will present “Designing your Garden” at 10:00
a.m. Students in the class will learn the basics of planning a new
garden bed or revitalizing an old bed. Topics covered will include site
evaluations, assessing your needs and wants, as well as concepts of good
garden design. If the weather is fair, students will be given a chance
at “hands on” bed preparation in the Thompson Gardens. The cost of this
class is $10.00 and pre-registration is required.
On May
10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., Susan Betz will present a class on designing a
kitchen herb garden. She has been growing herbs for the past 25 years
and has owned and operated “The Little Farm Herb Shop” in Allen, MI for
over 10 years. In addition, she has worked at the Slayton Arboretum at
Hillsdale College. Students will be given tips on herb selection,
planting techniques, and herb garden design. The cost of the class is
$10.00 and pre-registration is required.
To
register for a class, or for more information, call the Museum at
517-448-8125.
Hudson Museum Benefit Auction and Dinner May 3
Mark your calendars for Saturday May 3rd. Volunteers for the Hudson
Museum are busily preparing for the annual benefit. Louise VandeZande is
heading up a team of volunteers to gather antiques, collectibles,
services, and other items of interest for the annual auction. This is a
great time to clean your basements, attics, barns, garages, and sheds.
Your white elephant might be someone’s treasure.
If you
have items to donate, please drop them off at the library, the museum,
or call 517-448-8841. Dinner will be served at 6:30 at the American
Legion on Cadmus Road. The dinners will once again be $15 per person.
Once dinner is over, Auctioneer Lynn Leichty will be exciting the crowd
to bid on treasures from Hudson area attics and businesses. All proceeds
are used to operate the Museum.
The
donations for the dinner and auction pay for the heat and the
electricity to run the museum. The museum is staffed totally by
volunteers, headed by local historian and curator, Hazel Monahan.
If you
have not had a chance to attend this event, try it this year. It’s fun,
it’s entertaining, and it’s a great chance to support and preserve your
local history museum. If you can not attend the benefit, you may still
donate your treasures or money to keep the museum open. You can donate
at the library or at the museum to Museum Fund.
