Board confirms trimester plan
The
Hudson Area School Board set the final pieces in place to go to a
trimester schedule in the schools next year, when the board approved a
letter of agreement with the teacher's association pertaining to
contract changes that would be required.
Because
going to the trimester, which gives students more flexibility and the
option for extra curriculum, the school day will be lengthened while the
school year is shortened. The new school calendar approved by the board
will mean that school will start the Tuesday after Labor Day next fall,
and will end the Friday before Memorial Day. The changes will mean that
the schools will have 171 student days next year, and 177 teacher days.
In
other business, the board approved a recommendation on staffing, which
will fill both open custodial positions and hire a new bus mechanic.
Over the past several years the school has experimented with various
contract mechanics, but consistency of the same person available to do
upkeep has been an ongoing problem.
The
board also:
• Moved
the May meeting from May 19 to May 12, due to scheduling conflicts with
the Honors Banquet and Band members returning from their trip to
Florida.
• Got
more detailed plans for the proposed cafeteria update, which will be
funded out of food service funds.
Museum Curator Hazel Monahan Honored
The City of Hudson will be honoring Curator Hazel Monahan with a Twenty
year service award at the Hudson Museum Dinner and Auction on Saturday
May 3rd. Hazel was instrumental in acquiring the museum building from
Don Murdock and M&S Manufacturing Company. She joined forces with the
library staff and board to raise funds to renovate the building and move
the museum collection out of the library basement. Hazel consulted with
the State Historical Museum and the Lenawee Historical Society’s Charles
Lindquist on how to accession acquisitions and how to run a historical
museum. Hazel oversaw scores of workers on the renovation, the movement
and the placement of the historical and natural history collection.
Hazel
has donated her time and knowledge to the citizens of the Hudson area
for the past twenty years and is much admired for her service. Hazel is
an example of volunteerism at it’s finest.
Come
join us in celebrating Hazel’s dedication to the history of Hudson and
its people. The dinner tickets are $15 each and a wonderful auction
follows with local donated services, garden treasures, collectibles,
antiques, and just plain weird stuff. Reservations can still be made for
the dinner/auction at 448-8841 or 448-3801. The proceeds from the
auction pay for the operation of the museum
