Goodroe resigns as city manager

City Manager Frank Goodroe has announced to the Hudson City Council of his decision to resign as City Manager, effective June 19.  He has accepted a position as Court Administrator in a Court System in Southeast Michigan, near Metro Detroit, and will begin his new duties on June 22nd.

He began his tenure in Hudson in early January, 2007, following his appointment at the end of December, 2006. "This has been a period of financial struggle for the residents and citizens of this community and have placed tremendous challenges on the local government, as we have experienced shrinking financial resources," he said. "From the beginning, I have focused on local economic development in the industrial and commercial sectors of the City, especially the downtown district. While my tenure here has been briefer than I had intended, I have grown to appreciate living in a rural, less populated area, and have especially enjoyed my involvement in and association with the Hudson Chamber of Commerce, Hudson Senior Citizens Programs, Hudson Ministerial Association, which operates the Hudson Food Pantry, and the Hudson Kiwanis Club and the holiday food basket program."

The City Council will meet Tuesday to establish interim administrative leadership for the City and will decide how to proceed with the recruitment and selection of the next City Manager.

Geraniums for Civil War Veterans

Members of   Brownie Troop 180 (Helping Hands for Hudson) planted red geraniums at the 275 gravesites of Hudson’s Civil War Veterans in honor of Memorial Day thanks to United Way funding.

For a second year, Brownie Troop 180 (Helping Hands for Hudson) planted red geraniums at the 275 gravesites of Hudson’s Civil War Veterans in honor of Memorial Day thanks to United Way funding.

Working with Janet High, owner of Bean Creek Garden Center, the Brownies planted approximately 300 geraniums from plugs back in March. Janet and her staff have been taking care of the flowers so they would be ready for their planting day.

The Civil War gravesites were identified thanks to the help of Mrs. Hazel Monahan, Curator of the Hudson Museum. Mrs. Monahan and Mrs. Kris Eschedor, Troop Leader, worked together to document the Veterans’ gravesites at both Hudson cemeteries: Calvary Cemetery and Maple Grove Cemetery, in a user-friendly format for the planting teams.

The members of Brownie Troop 180 and their families spent time over the holiday weekend to complete the planting task. The families of Daisy Troop 308 assisted the Brownies with the planting.

In addition to the geraniums for Memorial Day, Brownie Girl Scout Troop 180 has placed several flower planters through out Hudson. Thanks to generous funding from United Way, the girls were again able to place the planters at the Municipal Building, Police Station, Fire Station and at The Coleman Foundation. Thank you United Way!

The Brownies of Troop 180 would like to offer our sincerest thanks to Janet High and Bean Creek Garden Center, Mrs. Hazel Monahan and the Hudson Museum, Angela Johnston and Sacred Heart School and to our supportive Brownie families. We would especially like to thank United Way for sponsoring our project and allowing our Troop to honor our Civil War Veterans in such a personal way. Thank you for helping us help Hudson!

Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament

The Brownies of Troop 180 ended the year with a Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament. The winners received tee-shirts generously donated by the USARPS League
