Letters to the Editor by You
                (April 19 2007 Hudson Post-Gazette Publication)

Dear Editor:

The Hudson local drive up mailbox on Howard Street has a sign on it that reads effective April 23rd. The box will no longer be used and mail is to be deposited in the remaining general delivery box. I was told by a post office employee that the local slot inside the post office would also be closed and in the future all local mail would go to Lansing for sorting and then returned to Hudson for delivery.

What efficiency! As long as the United States Postal Service is looking for more efficient systems why not buy a cart with wood wheels and a team of oxen to haul the mail back and forth between here and Lansing? Wouldn’t it also make sense that when the local mail is returned to Hudson there would be, as in the military, mail call where we could all gather in front of the post office and pick up our mail when our name is called out.

It may only be a rumor but in the future mail going west of the Mississippi will be directed to Wounded Knee, South Dakota Zip 57794 and mail east of the river will go to Blue Ball, Pennsylvania Zip 17506. Two very large and successful companies were built on the failures of the United States Postal Service -- UPS and FEDEX. I certainly have no complaint about the employees in our local post office but the bureaucrats that run the system from on high are another story! Government agencies are here to serve you.... do you want to be fried, roasted or stewed?

Sincerely,

Bruce G Coleman, Sr.
