Letters to the Editor by You

Dedicated Public Servants

This may be a little late, but late is better than never. I'm looking back to the time  when our City Council was busy finding a new City Manager. I think of our city employees who stepped in and maintained business as usual. I think of Kim Murphy, who took on the city manager position along with her city clerk job for the second time and did both very well.

Read in the neighboring newspapers about the problems in the towns around us and be thankful and proud that the taxpayers of Hudson have these dedicated public servants on our team.

Thank each and every one.

Dear Editor:

I’ve just taken the opportunity to visit Hudson’s website for the first time.  I was both pleasantly surprised and impressed.

The ideas that welcome anyone who visits the website are extremely positive and creative. First, I really love the slogan: Small Town – Big Heart. And even more I like how it’s connected to the phrase: Located on the Pulse of Michigan. Press Enter Here and up pops a map that places Hudson in the middle of the Midwest. Then when you realize where Hudson is located on the traditional Michigan mitten, it all makes sense. We are geographically and anatomically — if there is a metaphoric hand underneath that mitten — right where you’d feel the pulse. Our spot on the map is even a heart colored red. It really is a brilliant graphic presentation.

Big Heart, Strong Pulse: What great metaphors and what positive imagery for our community! These ideas are so good that we should immediately replace the slogan on our city limit signs placed some 30+ years ago that says Happiness is the City of Hudson – as if our city is a Peanuts cartoon caricature – and replace it with: Small Town – Big Heart! In fact, I like that idea so much that I’d be willing to personally pay for the replacement of the signs as a gift to the whole community.

I believe Hudson is a community with a Big Heart!

Our website is far more than just a link to city hall. It is about our whole community! Want to know what the weather in Hudson will be like tomorrow? Want to find out what teams the Hudson Tigers are scheduled to play this week through the e-link to the Hudson Area Schools? Need a map of the city? Want to check out news through the e-link to the Hudson Post Gazette? Want to print a copy of the color photo of those smiling first graders building a snowman that appeared in last week’s edition?

Need to call the pastor of one of Hudson’s 24 area churches? Wonder about the open hours of our Carnegie Library? Need more information about any of Hudson’s parks? Want to pass on a compliment to one of Hudson’s city leaders or see their photos so you know who you’re writing to? You’ll find all this great stuff...and a whole lot more, too. The point is that this website is about us and for us!

I have read news articles recently about the cost of building and maintaining this website. I know how expensive Information Systems can be– and believe me, we got our money’s worth on this investment. I suspect that a lot of the work that went into creating and maintaining this website was a labor of love. And I’ve been told that if you’ve got some new ideas about what else might be included to expand or improvethe website...there is an open mind willing to listen.

If you haven’t tried Hudson’s website yet, I encourage you to visit www.hudsonmich.com. You won’t be disappointed!
