A Stroll Down Memory Lane!

OLD EAST SIDE LINCOLN SCHOOL located
at the corner of Hill and North Wood Streets. Built about 1860, it was
torn down in 1959, and is presently the
site of the Wesleyan Church.
A number of bricks from the old school basement were taken at that time
by Ed Potter with permission of Pastor Miller and became a part of the
brick fireplace at the Potter home on Meridian Road.

DEPOT FOR CINCINNATI, JACKSON AND MACKINAC
RAILROAD The line was later called the Cincinnati Northern. The first
train passed through Hudson from the Ohio Line to Addison on December
28, 1887. The tracks were removed in 1977. The depot was located south
of Mechanic Street and east of St. Giles. Part of it was moved to the
east end of Fayette Street from its original site in 1951 by B.A.
Bowditch.

PETE'S
CONFECTIONARY, operated by Pete and Nancy Spadafora, located at
215 W. Main Street, was a favorite hangout for teenagers in the 1940s.
Opened in 1941, it was sold in 1950 to Vern and Freda Morgan.

324 Railroad St. [NE corner Railroad
St. & West St]. In 1882, The Zauber Wasser Sanitarium, previously named
Woodbine Health Resort, was built by Dr. George Chapman. It was known
for its mineral baths — treating all diseases except tuberculosis. When
Dr. Chapman died in 1906, the sanitarium was closed. It was then used as
a rooming house and is now an apartment.

GEORGE ENGLISH had a music store at
139 W. Main Street. He also took a piano around the countryside in a
truck, so his daughter Grace could demonstrate it. In the picture
the lady standing is Lydia M. Yoakam; the girls
at the piano are Grace and Ruby English. The seated lady is Estella
English, George's wife. Lydia Yoakam was Estelle's sister. The men in
the truck in the picture are unknown. |
